Toward Creative Circular Studies
Abstract: Keio University, Kamakura City and participating companies submitted an application proposal for a " 'co-existing upcycle society with respects'. It was adopted as a project as COI-NEXT (2023-2032). This project will collaborate with Kamakura City for the futuristic circular city, while at the same time promoting the new field of 'Creative Circular Studies' through the fusion of different fields. Many efforts to create a circular society in Japan have been promoted mainly by local governments since around 2000, but the economic system itself based on the huge consumption of natural resources has not yet changed. In recent years, companies have started to advocate a "circular economy," and citizens' interest in sustainability has increased as a result of the SDGs. Under these circumstances, a variety of players have taken the initiative, and there is a movement in various places to “create a new circulation” with innovative ideas that have never existed before. Creative circular studies are expected to serve as a foundation of knowledge that connects various fields of the humanities and sciences and connects the theory and practice of these new attempts. In this special feature, we would like to describe the first steps of new initiatives and outline future developments, while including editorials from domestic pioneers in the fields of environmental social systems and environmental economics.
Vol. 24 No. 1 16:00 on November 30 (Thu), 2023 There is no special theme. After peer review, we will publish the manuscript in time for printing due to printing reasons.
